NAS Grosse Ile Duathlon, Fall 2008

Location: Grosse Ile Airport, Grosse Ile, Michigan

Benefits: NAS (Naval Air Station) Grosse Ile Memorial Fund

Distances: 1^st leg - 4 Mile Run

                  2^nd leg - 15 Mile Bike

                  3^rd leg - 4 Mile Run

The run course is flat and fast. Surfaces vary from concrete to grass as you pace yourself down airport runways and through the adjacent nature area. The bike portion of the race is held on airport runways and taxiways and residential streets on Grosse Ile. The bike course is gently rolling and fast. Views of the Detroit River, Lake Erie, Canada, Detroit skyline and waterfront homes are fantastic.

• Run/Bike as an individual or part of a relay team.

• There’ll be shirts and goodie bags for participants.

Bring your cheering section, there will be plenty for them to do and see while you are on the race course. Tours will be given of the historic airport facilities. Businesses on and around the airport will be hosting open houses.

Directions to Grosse Ile Airport

FLYING IN? Click here  for fly-in routes as written by a FAA controller.

DRIVING IN? Follow the directions as listed below:

From the West:

Take I-94 East to I-275 South

Take I-275 South to the Eureka Road exit

Turn left (east) onto Eureka Road to I-75

Take I-75 South to West Road (Exit 32)

Take the east exit onto West Road 

Go to Allen Road (first traffic light past the railroad overpass) and turn right (south) 

Go to Van Horn Road (first traffic light past the railroad crossing) and turn left (east) 

Go to West Jefferson Road (the "T" intersection past the Daimler-Chrysler plant) and turn left (north) 

Go to the Grosse Ile Parkway (about 100 yards after you turn onto West Jefferson) and turn right

Go to Meridian Road (first light after crossing the bridge) and turn right 

Go to Groh Road (the "T" intersection with the flashing red light) and turn right 

Watch for the Township Hall sign on the left (about 200-250 yards), which marks the entrance drive to the parking lot. The Airport offices are on the second floor.

From the intersection of I-94 and I-75, it'll take you about 30-35 minutes to get here.

From the North:

Take I-75 South to West Road (exit 32) and follow the above directions from that point.

From the South:

Take I-75 North to Fort Street (Exit 28)

Go north on Fort Street to Van Horn Road and turn right (east)

Follow the directions above from Van Horn Road.
