Brownfield Redevelopment Authority
Background:
The Township of Grosse Ile has established, in
accordance with State Law, a Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. The
purpose of this Authority is to act as a catalyst for environmental
remediation and economic development on sites that are known to be
contaminated. The Authority acts in this capacity by conducting
investigations and cleanup activities through tax capture and offering a
single business tax credit on investment.
The first zone established for environmental cleanup was the Airport.
The
Authority has conducted approximately $120,000 in environmental studies and analysis.
In addition, the Authority is in the process of starting various activities
estimated at $850,000 which will facilitate the demolition of building #70, #142,
selective abatement activities in hangar #1 and a phase II environmental assessment for
the entire property. As a result of these activities and investment by the
Authority, the Airport is in negotiations for an estimated $10 million in new investment
and construction.
